# How to use undo, redo, grid snap, measure, simplify, and the text tool

# How to use undo, redo, grid snap, measure, simplify, and the text tool
This guide covers the smaller editing tools in the Cloud Slicer: undo, redo, history, snap settings, measurement, model simplification, and 3D text.

## Undo and redo
Use **Undo** to reverse the last supported editing action. Use **Redo** to apply it again.

The Cloud Slicer also has a **History** panel. It shows recent actions such as moving, rotating, scaling, adding objects, deleting objects, cloning, Smart rotate, adding parts, text edits, and simplification.

The history stack keeps up to 50 states.

## Jump through history
1. Click **History** in the toolbar.
2. Select an earlier action or the initial state.
3. The slicer moves backward or forward through the action list.

This is helpful when you made several edits and want to return to a specific point.

## Snap settings
Click **Snap settings** to control snapping while moving objects.

The popover includes:

- **Grid snap** - snaps movement to the grid
- **Object snap** - snaps to other object centers or edges
- **Threshold** - controls how close the object must be before snapping, in millimeters

Use snapping when you need models aligned cleanly on the build plate.

## Measure distance
1. Click **Measure distance**.
2. Click the first point on a model or on the bed.
3. Move the cursor to preview the measurement.
4. Click the second point to lock the measurement.

The measurement panel shows:

- Total distance in millimeters
- X, Y, and Z differences
- Start and end coordinates

Use **Clear** to remove the current measurement, or **Done** to leave measure mode.

## Simplify model
Simplify model reduces the triangle count of a selected mesh. This can make dense models lighter to load, edit, and export.

1. Right-click the model.
2. Choose **Simplify model**.
3. Pick a preset or adjust the simplification percentage.
4. Click **Simplify model**.

The presets are:

- **Light** - keeps most detail
- **Balanced** - recommended for most models
- **Strong** - creates a smaller file with more detail loss

||| Simplifying changes the model geometry. Use a lighter setting first if the model has fine details.

## Add text
Click **Add text** in the top toolbar.

If a single editable object is selected, the text is added to that object. If no object is selected, the text is added as a standalone text object.

The text panel lets you edit:

- Text content
- Font
- Size
- Depth
- Letter spacing
- Line gap
- Skew
- Rotation
- Horizontal and vertical alignment

## Attach or cut text into an object
When text is attached to a model, the text panel includes **Part type**.

Choose:

- **Part** - adds raised or attached text
- **Cut** - creates text as a negative part that cuts into the model

Placement options include **Top**, **Front**, **Back**, **Left**, **Right**, and **Surface**. With **Surface**, use **Pick on model** to choose the exact surface area.

## When a tool is unavailable
Some tools may be hidden or disabled if:

- Your role does not have permission for the tool
- The selected model is locked
- The tool only supports one selected model
- The selected item is a modifier part
- The slicer is currently slicing or processing
