Enabling and disabling them happens in **Settings -> Organisation -> School settings**; everything else - which cards show, the teacher's status tiles, quick links and the "who to ask" list - is edited in the Dashboard builder on the reserved Student and Teacher dashboards. || The dashboards live on the School plan. Near the bottom you'll find the **Student & teacher dashboards** section: a short note explaining that the dashboards now live in the Dashboard builder, two **Enabled** checkboxes and an **Open the Dashboard builder** button. ![The Student and teacher dashboards section in School settings](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/f/f/2/2/ff22a914001c1000/setting-up-school-settings-mov_11km5na.png) | If you can't see the School settings card at all, your account isn't on the School plan, or your rank doesn't have the **Manage school settings** permission. Ask your account admin to grant it, or upgrade to the School plan on the [pricing page](https://simplyprint.io/pricing). Each dashboard has its own **Enabled** checkbox: - **Enable the student dashboard** shows it to students. - **Enable the teacher dashboard** shows it to teachers. The two are independent. Run both (the typical classroom setup), run only one, or leave both off while you build them. ||| While a reserved dashboard is disabled, only dashboard managers can see it. That's deliberate: it lets you stage and edit the dashboard in the builder before any student or teacher lands on it. Disabling a dashboard simply hides it from that role until you switch it back on - enable it when you're ready to show it to the class. ## Opening a dashboard in the builder Click **Open the Dashboard builder** (or open **Dashboard** in the left sidebar). This is the unified Custom Dashboards page at /panel/dashboard. Open the reserved **Student dashboard** or **Teacher dashboard**, then switch to edit mode to change its cards, layout and links. ![A reserved dashboard open in the Dashboard builder](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/f/f/2/2/ff22a914001c1000/setting-up-reserved-dashboard-_ad85jo.png) You can also jump straight to one at /panel/dashboard/student or /panel/dashboard/teacher. The reserved dashboards can't be deleted - they're always there for the Student and Teacher roles - but everything inside them is editable. ## Choosing which cards appear In edit mode, each dashboard is a grid of cards. Add the ones you want, remove the ones you don't, and drag them into the layout that suits your class. **Teacher dashboard cards** - File upload - School queue - Bulletin board - Help card - Status cards - Pending users - Quota requests - Pending print approvals **Student dashboard cards** - File upload - Queue - Bulletin board - Academy CTA - Quick links - Teachers and admins - Help card For example, if you're not using the quota system, remove the **Quota requests** card from the teacher dashboard so it doesn't take up space. If you don't want a bulletin board, remove the **Bulletin** card from both dashboards. ## Picking teacher status cards The teacher dashboard's status row is a strip of compact printer-status tiles. Each tile counts a slice of the fleet: - **Next finish** - the printer with the soonest finish time - **Idle** - printers ready but not currently printing - **Paused** - paused print jobs - **Attention** - printers needing a user action - **Offline** - printers that aren't reachable - **Ongoing** - currently printing - **Pending** - queue items waiting for a printer Show or hide each tile from the status card's settings in the builder. Hide the ones that aren't useful for your classroom - a single-room lab probably doesn't need both **Idle** and **Pending** taking up two tiles. ## Staging a dashboard before students see it There's no separate preview button anymore. The builder is a live, what-you-see-is-what-you-get editor, so the layout you arrange is exactly what the class gets. To try changes safely, leave the dashboard disabled while you edit it: only dashboard managers can see a disabled dashboard, so you can arrange cards, add links and check the result without a student or teacher seeing a half-finished page. Enable it once it looks right. | Staging with the **Enabled** checkbox off is much faster than logging out, logging in as a test student, and remembering to log back in as yourself. ## What students and teachers see right after a change Changes to a dashboard's layout apply as soon as you save them in the builder. The next time a student or teacher loads /panel/dashboard, they'll see the new layout; anyone who already had it open sees it on their next refresh or navigation. Toggling a dashboard on or off in School settings takes effect the same way. There's no broadcast notification when you rearrange a dashboard - the change just shows up.
