How to export your filament spools from SpoolManager (OctoPrint) & import into SimplyPrint

This guide explains how to export your spool data from the SpoolManager plugin for OctoPrint and import it into SimplyPrint's Filament Manager.


This import source is not available yet, but will be within the next few days. Stay tuned!


The filament import feature is part of the Pro plan.


Exporting from SpoolManager (CSV)

  1. Open your OctoPrint web interface
  2. Click the wrench icon to open Settings
  3. Scroll down to the Plugins section in the left sidebar and click Spool Manager
  4. Click the Export / Import tab at the top
  5. In the Export section, click the CSV-File text to download your spool data

That's it - you now have a CSV file with all your spools.


Alternative: Export the database file

You can also download the raw database file if you prefer:


  1. In OctoPrint Settings, go to Spool Manager
  2. Click the Storage tab
  3. Download the .db file from the storage location


Both the CSV and .db file formats are supported by SimplyPrint's import tool.


Importing into SimplyPrint

  1. In SimplyPrint, go to Filament Manager and click Import
  2. Upload your exported CSV or .db file
  3. SimplyPrint will auto-detect the SpoolManager format
  4. Review the preview - you'll see how each spool will be matched to brands and materials
  5. Click Import to bring in your spools

SpoolManager tracks "used weight" rather than "remaining weight." SimplyPrint automatically calculates remaining weight by subtracting used weight from the total during import.


After importing

Your spools will appear in the Filament Manager right away. SimplyPrint matches brands and materials against the Open Filament Database when possible, giving you accurate filament profiles with temperature settings.
