The swapmod clearing method for AutoPrint

The swapmod clearing method for AutoPrint

swapmod is an automatic plate-switching mod for the Bambu Lab A1 Mini, made by swap-systems. Instead of pushing the part off, it swaps the whole print plate for a fresh one between prints, so SimplyPrint can keep the queue running unattended. This guide covers what swapmod does, how to pick it as your AutoPrint clearing method, and the one setting plate-swappers always need.

swapmod runs as a clearing method inside AutoPrint, which is part of the Pro plan and up.

What swapmod is

swapmod is a mechanical mod for the Bambu Lab A1 Mini. According to swap-systems, when a print finishes it ejects the current plate and slides a fresh plate into place, so the printer never has to wait for someone to remove the part. With AutoPrint driving the queue, that keeps the A1 Mini printing through a full stack of plates on its own.

It comes in two editions, both fully supported in SimplyPrint:

  • swapmod A1m Kit - the pre-built mechanical kit.
  • swapmod A1m STL - the printable DIY version you make yourself.

Selecting swapmod on a printer

You set a clearing method per printer, from the AutoPrint settings.

  1. Open the printer's control panel and find the AutoPrint widget.
  2. Open the AutoPrint settings and find the Clearing method section.
  3. Click the method selector and choose swapmod.
  4. In the variant dropdown, pick your edition: swapmod A1m Kit or swapmod A1m STL. The clearing sequence is different for each, so this matters.
  5. Set a Max AutoPrint cycles value (see below), then save.
  6. Flip the AutoPrint switch on for the printer.

You can view the clearing gcode for swapmod under the gcode editor and tweak it if your setup needs it. The two editions ship with different sequences, so always match the variant to the hardware you actually installed.

Set a max cycle count

swapmod works through a finite stack of plates, so SimplyPrint asks you to set a Max AutoPrint cycles value. This is the number of prints (plate swaps) the printer should run before it stops and waits for you to reload plates. Without it, AutoPrint would try to swap a plate that is not there.

The mod's default suggestion is 3 cycles, but set it to however many plates your stack actually holds.

What SimplyPrint does each cycle

With swapmod selected, each AutoPrint cycle runs like this:

  1. The print finishes and SimplyPrint detects the completed state.
  2. The bed cools to the temperature (or for the time) you set, so the part releases from the plate.
  3. SimplyPrint runs the swapmod clearing sequence for your edition, ejecting the finished plate and loading a fresh one.
  4. SimplyPrint verifies the bed is clear. With a camera connected, AI bed check can confirm visually before continuing.
  5. SimplyPrint matches the next queue item and starts it, until the max-cycle count is reached.

For how matching, scheduling and verification work in detail, see the AutoPrint overview.

Buying swapmod

swapmod is sold by swap-systems. SimplyPrint shows a discount code in the clearing-method card when swapmod is selected; use it at checkout on the swap-systems store. The STL edition can be printed yourself from the files swap-systems provides.
