How to move, rotate, scale, duplicate, remove, and lay models flat

This guide explains the basic model editing tools in the Cloud Slicer: moving, rotating, scaling, duplicating, removing, and placing a model on a selected face.

Cloud Slicer workbench with a selected model and transform controls visible

Before you start

Open Slicer, import a model, and select it on the build plate or from the Objects list.

Most editing actions only apply to the selected model. If a model is locked, the Cloud Slicer clears or blocks normal selection and disables actions such as deleting, duplicating, changing settings, and laying it on a face.

Move a model

  1. Select the model.
  2. Click the Move tool in the transform controls.
  3. Enter the X, Y, or Z position in millimeters.
  4. Commit the field change to apply the value.

Moving on X and Y changes the model's position on the build plate. Moving on Z changes its height position.

Rotate a model

  1. Select the model.
  2. Click the Rotate tool.
  3. Enter the rotation for X, Y, or Z in degrees.

Use small changes when you need a precise orientation. For automatic orientation, use Smart rotate instead.

Scale a model

  1. Select the model.
  2. Click the Scale tool.
  3. Change the X, Y, or Z size in millimeters or percent.
  4. Use Scale uniformly when you want all axes to keep the same proportion.

If Scale uniformly is off, each axis can be changed separately. This is useful for technical adjustments, but it can distort the model.

Duplicate or clone a model

Right-click the selected model and open Clone.

You can choose:

  • Duplicate - creates one copy
  • Clone n times... - asks how many copies to create
  • Fill bed - creates as many copies as the current plate can fit

Copied models are automatically arranged after cloning where the slicer can do so.

Remove a model

You can remove a model in a few places:

  • Click the trash icon next to the model in the Objects list
  • Right-click the model and choose Delete
  • Select the model and use the Delete key

For multiple selected models, use Delete selection from the context menu.

Deleting a model removes it from the current slicer project. If you still need the original file, keep it saved in your SimplyPrint files or on your device.

Lay a model flat on a selected face

The Cloud Slicer calls this tool Lay on side in the top toolbar and Lay on face in the right-click menu.

  1. Click Lay on side in the top toolbar, or right-click the model and choose Lay on face.
  2. Move your cursor over the model.
  3. Click the face you want to place against the build plate.
  4. The slicer rotates the model so that face points down.

This is useful when a model imports standing upright, tilted, or with the wrong side on the bed.

If a tool is disabled

An editing tool may be disabled when:

  • No model is selected
  • Multiple models are selected and the tool only supports one model
  • The model is locked
  • The model is being sliced or processed

Some tools, such as Lay on face and Smart rotate, can also depend on your account permissions. Basic move, rotate, and scale controls are selected-model tools rather than separate role-controlled features.
