How to auto-arrange and auto-rotate models

Auto-arrange positions models on the build plate. Smart rotate changes a selected model's orientation. They solve different problems, and you can use them together.

Smart rotate is available on Basic and higher ecosystem plans, and on the dedicated Cloud Slicer plan. Auto-arrange is available in the Cloud Slicer when your role has permission to use it.

Auto-arrange vs Smart rotate

Use Arrange objects when models are overlapping, outside the bed, or need better spacing.

Use Smart rotate when a selected model is facing the wrong way or needs a better print orientation.

Auto-arrange does not rotate models. It places them on the plate. Smart rotate rotates one selected model.

Auto-arrange models

  1. Add one or more models to the Cloud Slicer.
  2. Click Arrange objects in the top toolbar.

You can also right-click an empty area of the workspace and choose Arrange.

The slicer arranges unlocked objects. Locked objects are skipped.

Auto-arrange on multiple plates

When you are already working with multiple plates, auto-arrange works on the active plate.

To arrange a different plate:

  1. Select that plate in the workspace or Objects list.
  2. Click Arrange objects.

Overflow to new plates

When you are working from a single plate and multiple plates are enabled, auto-arrange can place overflow objects onto new plates if they do not fit on the first plate.

After arranging, check every plate before slicing.

Smart rotate a selected model

  1. Select one model.
  2. Click Smart rotate in the top toolbar.

You can also right-click the model and choose Smart rotate.

The right-click menu also has Smart rotate (minimizing support) when the tool is available.

Auto-rotate on import

Your account can also be configured to ask about Smart rotate when models are imported, always rotate imported models, or never rotate imported models.

If you keep seeing an import prompt, check your Cloud Slicer UI settings or ask an account admin to review the account's slicer UI defaults.

If auto-arrange or Smart rotate is unavailable

These tools may be unavailable if:

  • Your role does not have permission for the tool
  • The model or plate is locked
  • No model is selected for Smart rotate
  • Multiple models are selected for Smart rotate
  • Smart rotate is not included in your current plan
  • The selected item is a modifier part
  • The slicer is currently processing or slicing
