The SketchUp integration: send models straight to SimplyPrint
The SketchUp integration: send models straight to SimplyPrint
The SimplyPrint extension for SketchUp lets you export the active model and upload it to your SimplyPrint account in one click. Pick STL or 3MF, optionally limit to your selection, press Send, and the file lands in SimplyPrint ready to slice and print.
What you can do
- Export STL or 3MF directly from SketchUp to SimplyPrint
- One-click upload of the active model, or limit to your current selection
- Auto-convert units to millimeters - SketchUp often defaults to inches or feet, but printers expect mm
- Optional solid validation - warns before uploading non-manifold geometry that won't print
- Sign in once - the SimplyPrint session is shared with the Blender and Fusion 360 plugins
- Works on Windows, macOS, and Linux
Install the extension
The SimplyPrint extension is free and works on SketchUp 2021 and later (3MF export needs SketchUp 2024+).
Step 1: Get the .rbz file
Grab the extension from one of these two places - they're the same file:
- Recommended: SimplyPrint on the SketchUp Extension Warehouse
- Backup, in case Extension Warehouse is down: cdn.simplyprint.io/i/static/integrations/sketchup/simplyprint.rbz
Step 2: Install it in SketchUp
- Open SketchUp and go to Window → Extension Manager.
- At the bottom of the Extension Manager window, click Install Extension.
- Navigate to where you saved
simplyprint.rbz, select it, and click Open. - Approve any prompts SketchUp shows.
- Restart SketchUp. A SimplyPrint toolbar appears and a Send to SimplyPrint… entry is added under the Extensions menu.
Where to find it
Once installed, the extension shows up in four places so you can reach it from wherever you're working:
Extensions menu
Find the SimplyPrint submenu under Extensions. It contains Send to SimplyPrint…, Open SimplyPrint Panel, Sign out, and Reset extension data….

File menu
Send to SimplyPrint… is also added to the File menu, right next to Print… and Export.

Toolbar
A dockable SimplyPrint toolbar gives you a one-click icon. Drag it wherever you like - SketchUp remembers the position across sessions. If you can't see it, enable it from View → Toolbars.
Right-click menu
With something selected, right-click in the viewport and you'll find Send to SimplyPrint… in the context menu.
How to send a SketchUp model to SimplyPrint
- Open the model you want to print in SketchUp.
- Open the SimplyPrint dialog from any of the four entry points above.
- The first time you use it, click Sign in. A browser tab opens with SimplyPrint's sign-in page - approve the request and return to SketchUp. You stay signed in for future exports.
- Pick your format and options (see below), then click Send to SimplyPrint.
- SimplyPrint opens in your browser with the file pre-loaded, ready to slice, queue, or print.

Options explained
Format
Option | When to use |
|---|---|
STL (binary) | Universal mesh format - every slicer reads it. Pick this if you're not sure. |
3MF | Newer format that preserves units and metadata. Requires SketchUp 2024 or later. |
Selection only
When checked, only the geometry you've selected in the viewport is exported. If nothing is selected, the dialog tells you and skips the export.
Auto-convert units to millimeters
On by default. SketchUp models are often built in inches or feet, but slicers expect millimeters. Leave this on unless you have a specific reason to keep your model's native units.
Validate solids before upload
On by default. Walks every group and component in the scope and warns if anything isn't manifold (a closed, watertight solid). Non-manifold geometry won't slice cleanly and usually won't print.
Signing out or switching accounts
Open the Extensions → SimplyPrint submenu and click Sign out. To also clear the local token file on disk, use Reset extension data… instead. Signing out in SketchUp doesn't affect any other SimplyPrint plugins you may have installed (Blender, Fusion 360, etc.) - each handles its own session.
Requirements
- SketchUp 2021 or later (STL export)
- SketchUp 2024 or later for 3MF export
- Internet access to
https://simplyprint.io - macOS, Windows, or Linux
Troubleshooting
Sign-in window opens but never returns.
The extension needs to listen on a local port to receive the OAuth callback - firewalls or another browser process can block it. Click Reopen in the dialog to try again, or use a different browser as your default.
The SimplyPrint toolbar is missing.
Go to View → Toolbars and tick SimplyPrint to bring it back. You can also use the Extensions → SimplyPrint → Send to SimplyPrint… menu while you're at it.
"Non-manifold geometry detected" when sending.
One or more of your groups or components isn't a closed solid. Either fix them in SketchUp (use the Solid Inspector extension if you have it), or untick Validate solids before upload to send anyway.
"Selection only is enabled but nothing is selected."
Either select something in the viewport before sending, or untick Selection only to export the whole model.
The 3MF option is greyed out.
3MF export requires SketchUp 2024 or later. On older versions, STL is the only format available.
