My printer isn't on the SimplyPrint compatibility list

Can't find your printer on the SimplyPrint compatibility list? That rarely means it won't work. This guide shows you how to find out how your printer connects, how to add it to SimplyPrint today, and how it gets onto the list.


New printers launch every month, far more than anyone could buy and test on launch day. So we don't wait until a printer has been on our desk: we list new printers soon after they launch, with our best expectation of how they connect, and owners confirm them from inside SimplyPrint. A printer that isn't listed yet is often very new, and many work just like a model that is.

Search the list first

Search for your printer on the compatibility list. The list also holds brand-new printers nobody has confirmed yet. Those are marked Expected to work or Not confirmed yet instead of being left out, and you can filter the list by status.


If you find your printer, open its page. It shows how the printer connects and what works with SimplyPrint, and a printer that isn't confirmed yet has a Help us confirm button. What the compatibility statuses mean (link: article 04 once published) explains each label.


Find out how your printer connects

You don't need the printer in front of you. The manufacturer's product page or manual answers most of these questions.


Our compatibility finder asks one question at a time and only the ones that matter for your answers:

  1. Which printer you have. Typing the brand and model is optional: the finder checks it against the list and uses it for the searches at the end.
  2. Who made it. Every Bambu Lab printer connects through the SimplyPrint Client, so that answer ends the questions straight away. For a Prusa, it asks whether it is one of the newer models. For other brands, it asks whether the printer is brand new, and which of the brand's newest listed printers it follows.
  3. Whether it connects to your Wi-Fi or a network cable, and if so, whether you send prints from the maker's own app or from a page in your browser.
  4. Which page opens when you type the printer's IP address into your browser: Mainsail, Fluidd, OctoPrint or Duet Web Control. The finder shows each one's logo and how to tell them apart.
  5. Whether it has a USB port for a cable to a computer. This means a port a computer can print through, not a slot for a USB stick or an SD card.
  6. If you're not sure, what kind of screen it has and roughly when it was made.


It ends with the way your printer can most likely connect, says how sure that answer is, and has a button to that setup guide. If your answers don't settle it, it says so and lists how printers of that brand usually connect.


Every result also has ready-made Google searches for your printer together with "klipper", "octoprint", "moonraker" and "root" (when you typed its name), plus buttons that ask an AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, with the question already written for you.


Add your printer to SimplyPrint today

You don't have to wait for your printer to be listed. When you add it, choose one of these two in the printer list. Either way, how the printer connects comes from the setup guide you follow, not from the model you pick. The model fills in things like the bed size, the build height and the picture, and you can change the model later.


The listed model it is most like

If a close relative is listed, such as an earlier version or the same printer in another size, pick that one. Then check the bed size and build height in the printer's settings and adjust anything that differs.


If you typed your printer's name into the compatibility finder first, the window for adding the printer offers This is my (printer), added as the (model) until it's on the list. Tick it to file a request for your printer and get an email when we add it.


Any Generic Printer

  1. In the printer list, open Any Generic Printer and pick Generic Cartesian, or Generic Delta for a delta printer with a round bed.
  2. A settings window opens. Leave Printer can be bought by anyone ticked and type the printer's brand and model.
  3. Leave Get notified if the printer is officially added? ticked if you want an email when we add it.
  4. Fill in the bed size and maximum print height, then click Choose and finish adding the printer.


How your printer gets added to the list

When you finish adding a generic printer with a brand and model filled in, or tick This is my (printer) when you add it as a listed model, your printer is filed as a request in the SimplyPrint team's printer queue, together with the details you entered. If other people name the same printer, they join the same request. If the printer was added to the list in the meantime, nothing is filed: just pick it.


When the printer's page goes live, however it was added, everyone who asked to be notified gets an email titled "The (printer) is now in SimplyPrint", with a link to its page. Then open your printer's settings in SimplyPrint and choose the new model. You don't need to set the printer up again.


Home-made printers

Untick Printer can be bought by anyone if you designed and built the printer yourself. Keep it ticked for a printer anyone can buy, even if you modified it or built it from a kit. A home-made printer isn't filed as a request, since nobody else can buy one. This article explains how to set one up and add your own picture.


Help confirm your printer once it is connected

If you filed a request for your printer, we can already see how it prints, and you get the email when it is listed.


For a printer that was added as its own listed model, the control panel in SimplyPrint asks a few quick questions about how it works. Your answers, together with the prints you finish, are how a printer goes from "Expected to work" to "Compatible" for every owner after you. Can I still use it with SimplyPrint?
Most likely. If it sets up the same way as a printer on our list, it can be added to SimplyPrint: when you add it, pick that printer, or pick Any Generic Printer (Generic Cartesian or Generic Delta) and type in your printer's name.


What happens if I pick another printer model in SimplyPrint?
Mostly nothing: printing, the camera, the print queue and the rest work the same. The one difference is the cloud slicer. For a printer that isn't on our list, we haven't imported its slicer profiles, where they exist, for the slicer engines we support, so you slice with the other model's profile or your own settings.


How do I tell you it works?
Add it as Any Generic Printer and type in its name, or tick This is my (printer) when you add it as a listed model. Then we know which printer it is, see how it prints, and can email you when it's on our list.


When will you add my printer to the list?
If it works and owners tell us how well, we can often add it within a few days, with a little help from the community. Once it's on the list, you can switch your printer to it in SimplyPrint without setting it up again.


My printer is a Combo, or has a mod. Which model do I pick?
Its regular model. A Combo is the printer with its multi-material unit, which you add in the printer's settings, and a mod like auto-ejection or a plate swapper is set up in the printer's AutoPrint settings. They don't need a model of their own, so we only list some of them.


Can I connect a resin printer, a CNC machine or a laser cutter?
No. SimplyPrint currently works with FDM 3D printers only, the kind that melts plastic filament. Resin (SLA, MSLA, DLP), powder (SLS) and metal printers, CNC machines and laser cutters can't be connected or sliced for, but you can log their jobs, material and cost as a virtual machine.


Why isn't it on the list already?
There are hundreds of printers on our list, and new ones come out every month. We're a small team and can't buy and test every one, so we rely on owners like you, and on manufacturers who share their new models with us before launch. We'd love it if more of them did.
