Cloud Slicer permissions and role controls

Cloud Slicer permissions and role controls

Admins can control what users are allowed to do in the Cloud Slicer. This is useful for schools, print farms, and shared accounts where not everyone should be able to change slicer engines, profiles, or advanced settings.

Cloud Slicer role permissions for user groups

Where to find these settings

  1. Go to Settings > Organization.
  2. Open User groups & permissions.
  3. Create a new user group, or edit an existing one.
  4. In the permissions list, find the Cloud Slicer permissions.

You need permission to manage organization user groups before you can change these controls.

What permissions control

Cloud Slicer uses permissions for user actions and plan features for a few account-level capabilities.

Permissions can control whether a user can:

  • Access and use the slicer
  • Change slicer engine
  • Change machine, filament, or print profiles
  • Change profile settings
  • Change bed type, nozzle diameter, or nozzle volume type
  • Use all settings modes
  • See system default profiles
  • Create custom profiles
  • Manage shared organization profiles
  • Use tools such as auto-arrange, paint tools, text, measuring, history, and grid snap

Permissions are not the same as plan limits

Most slicer settings are controlled by permissions and role restrictions, not by plan-specific setting gates.

Plan differences for the Cloud Slicer are about monthly slice count, custom profile count, auto-rotate, shared profiles, and custom bed types. Do not treat individual settings such as infill or retraction as plan-gated.

Role restrictions for slicer engines

Admins can restrict which slicer engines a role can select.

When this is configured, the engine selector only shows engines allowed for that role.

Role restrictions for individual settings

Admins can also restrict individual slicer setting keys for a role.

This is separate from the general modify slicer settings permission. A role can be allowed to edit slicer settings, while still being restricted from specific settings chosen by an admin.

School setup presets

School onboarding includes preset permission cards for student access. The cards can enable or disable groups of slicer permissions, such as:

  • Access and use the slicer
  • Change printer info
  • Modify slicer settings
  • Change profile selection, slicer engine, and mode
  • Create own slicer profiles

Admins can change these later in user rank settings.

If a user cannot see or change something

Check these in order:

  1. The user's role has the relevant slicer permission.
  2. The role is allowed to select the current engine.
  3. The role is not restricted from the specific setting.
  4. The profile source is editable by that user.
  5. The account has not reached its custom profile limit.
