Bambu Lab security firmware "Authorization Control System" update: will I still be able to use SimplyPrint?
Bambu Lab Firmware Update & SimplyPrint: What You Need to Know
Overview
Bambu Lab recently introduced a new Authorization Control System as part of a security firmware update. This update impacts third-party integrations, including SimplyPrint, preventing actions such as starting prints, heating the printer, and sending movement commands.
However, there is no need to panic. We are in active discussions with Bambu Lab, and they are cooperating with us to ensure SimplyPrint remains compatible with Bambu Lab printers.
For more details, you can read Bambu Lab’s official announcements here:

Current Status
SimplyPrint still works with Bambu Lab printers.
If you have an X1 series printer, we recommend not updating your firmware yet, as the latest beta version restricts certain SimplyPrint functions.
The P1 and A1 series printers are currently unaffected, but future updates may introduce similar restrictions. We advise checking SimplyPrint announcements before updating.
Firmware downgrades are possible, so there is no permanent lockout risk at this time.
Future firmware by Bambu Lab will include a Developer Mode, which can be enabled to always allow SimplyPrint to function with the latest firmware when Developer Mode and LAN mode are enabled.
As of today ( January 30th), no official firmware has this restriction; only beta firmware for the X1 series. This beta firmware does not yet include Developer Mode.
The X1Plus open-source firmware remains unaffected and will continue working with SimplyPrint as it currently does. You can find more about X1Plus here: X1Plus Open-Source Firmware.
What the New Firmware Changes
The latest update prevents SimplyPrint from:
Starting prints remotely
Sending movement commands
Heating up your printer
SimplyPrint can still read data from the printer, but without additional permissions, controlling the printer remotely is restricted.
SimplyPrint's Response
We are actively working with Bambu Lab to find a long-term solution. Here’s what we’re doing:
Direct communication with Bambu Lab’s leadership and development team
Gaining access to Bambu Lab's official SDKs to explore new integration possibilities
Working on adapting SimplyPrint to comply with the new authorization system
The recent announcement of Developer Mode gives us a workable path forward. While this mode may limit certain cloud-based functionalities, SimplyPrint will continue to support Bambu Lab printers via Local mode.
What You Should Do
X1 Series Owners: Avoid updating firmware until we confirm a stable SimplyPrint integration.
P1 and A1 Series Owners: Be cautious with future firmware updates and wait for SimplyPrint's official guidance.
Join the Conversation: Engaging with Bambu Lab on forums and social media (mentioning SimplyPrint) helps reinforce user demand for continued third-party integration.
Final Thoughts
We are confident SimplyPrint will continue to support Bambu Lab printers, thanks to ongoing collaboration with Bambu Lab’s team. There is no immediate risk of losing SimplyPrint functionality, and we will keep you updated on our progress.
Stay tuned for further announcements, and as always, thank you for being part of the SimplyPrint community!
