Transferring account ownership

Transferring account ownership

Every SimplyPrint account has one owner, the person with ultimate control, including billing and the ability to delete the account. If you're the owner and someone else should take over, you can hand ownership to another member. This guide explains how, and what changes when you do.

Ownership transfer is done from the Users page, which is part of the plans that include multiple users: the Print Farm, School and Enterprise plans. Only the current owner can transfer ownership.

What ownership means

The owner is the single person ultimately responsible for the account. Owners automatically have every permission, sit outside the user-group system, and can do things no other member can, such as managing the subscription and deleting the account. Transferring ownership moves all of that to someone else.

Before you start

  • The person taking over must already be a member of your account. If they aren't, invite them first and wait for them to join.
  • You'll choose a user group for yourself, because once you're no longer the owner you become a regular member and need a group like everyone else.
  • You'll be asked to confirm your password (and 2FA, if you use it), so have it ready.

Transferring ownership

  1. Open the Users page.
  2. Find the member who should become the new owner.
  3. Open their row actions and choose Transfer ownership.
  4. Confirm your password (and 2FA) when prompted.
  5. Pick the user group you'll move into after the handover.
  6. Read the warning and confirm.

What happens after

  • The other member becomes the owner immediately, with full control of the account, including billing and deletion.
  • You stay in the account as a normal member, in the group you selected.
  • The new owner is approved and email-verified automatically, since all owners are trusted.

Good to know

Transferring ownership is irreversible from your side. Once you hand it over, only the new owner can transfer it back. Make sure you trust the person and have agreed the change with them first.

  • There's no acceptance step, the transfer takes effect as soon as you confirm.
  • If you only want to give someone more control without giving up ownership, put them in an Administrator group instead. See User groups and permissions.
