What the compatibility statuses on SimplyPrint's printer pages mean

Every printer on the SimplyPrint compatibility list has its own page. This guide explains what each status, number and table on that page means, and how to tell us when something is wrong.

The statuses

New printers are listed soon after they launch, with our best expectation, and owners confirm them inside SimplyPrint. So a status says how sure we are, not only yes or no:

Status

What it means

What you can do

Verified by SimplyPrint

Our team has tested this printer with this connection method on real hardware.

Use the setup link on the card.

Compatible

Known to work, from the manufacturer's documentation, the way the printer communicates, or prints by SimplyPrint owners.

Use the setup link on the card.

Expected to work

Not confirmed yet, but we expect it to work, often because it is built like a model we already list.

Set it up, then help confirm it.

We're working on it

Our team is working on support for this connection method.

Check back, or use another connection method if one works.

Possible, not built yet

It could work, for example through the manufacturer's API, but we haven't built it. We build it when enough people ask.

Vote for the suggestion, when the card links one.

Not confirmed yet - help us find out

We don't know yet either way.

Click Help us confirm.

Not expected to work

We don't expect it to work, but we could be wrong.

Click Find out how to check.

Not compatible

Known not to work through this connection method.

Use another connection method if one works.

A method that works only after you install a community firmware in place of the printer's own, such as Rinkhals on some Anycubic printers, shows With community firmware instead of its status, and the card names the firmware.

Help us confirm and Find out how to check open a few questions about the printer that end at the right setup guide. Once a printer is connected, its owner can confirm it from the printer's control panel: see Help confirm a printer's compatibility in SimplyPrint (link: article 03 once published).

One status per connection method

The compatibility section has one card per connection method, best status first. A printer can be Compatible through the SimplyPrint Client and Not compatible through OctoPrint, for example, and you only need one that works.

The compatibility list and the printer list you pick from when adding a printer show each printer's best status. Of the statuses, only Not compatible is shown in red. In the printer list, Compatible printers carry no badge, and printers that are Verified, Compatible, Expected to work or Not confirmed yet can be picked.

Expected to work like another model

Many new printers are close relatives of printers we already list: the same mainboard, the same firmware, a new size. Their card says Expected to work like the (model), with a link to that printer's page. The printer list shows the same line.

Use the setup link on the card: it takes you to the setup guide for the way we expect the printer to connect. Once three different accounts have finished prints with it through that connection method on stock printers, and no more than one reports that connecting or printing fails, it becomes Compatible automatically.

Working on it and expected dates

We're working on it means our team is adding support for the printer through that connection method. When we have an expected date, the status reads We're working on it - expected with a month ("March 2027"), a quarter ("Q1 2027") or a year, never a specific day. No date means we don't have one yet.

Requirements under a status

Some printers need something before a connection method works. The card lists it under the status, for example:

  • Requires root access on the printer
  • Requires firmware (version) or newer
  • Needs the community firmware (name), or Requires the OctoPrint plugin (name)
  • Requires an update of the printer's SSL certificates
  • The printer has no USB port a computer can connect to
  • Needs a serial connection through the mainboard's RX/TX pins
  • Monitoring only while the printer is in cloud mode
  • Its screen may not show prints sent over USB, or load its saved bed mesh for them

The usage line

Under a Verified by SimplyPrint or Compatible status, and at the top of the owners section, the page says how widely the printer is used with SimplyPrint:

What we count

What the page says

No printers yet

Nothing

Fewer than 10 printers, or fewer than 3 accounts

In use with SimplyPrint

10 to 24 printers

10+ printers use SimplyPrint

25, 50, 100, 250 or 500 printers and up

25+, 50+, 100+, 250+ or 500+

1,000 printers and up

Rounded down to the nearest 500, and from 5,000 to the nearest 1,000: "1,500+", "12,000+"

The number is always rounded down, never up. It is updated once a day and leaves out SimplyPrint's own and test accounts and printers their owners reported as modified.

Owner ratings

Owners rate how well a printer works with SimplyPrint, for the connection method their printer uses. It isn't a review of the printer itself.

  • Who can rate: you see a rating card on the Printers page in SimplyPrint once one of your printers has finished 10 prints that SimplyPrint tracked and was added at least 14 days ago. The connection method is taken from the printer, so you only give stars and an optional comment.
  • What the page shows: the section (printer) owners on SimplyPrint shows an average out of 5 per connection method once at least 3 different accounts have rated it.
  • Comments: the 3 newest comments, without names, marked "Verified owner" with the connection method and the month.
  • Moderation: every comment is checked automatically before it is shown, and one that can't be checked waits for a person. Leave out links and email addresses: a review with either isn't published.

The What works with SimplyPrint table

This table shows which SimplyPrint features work with the printer for each connection method that is Verified, Compatible or Expected to work. Features are grouped into monitoring, printing, files, printer control, calibration, multi-material and automation.

Icon

Meaning

✓

Works

!

Depends: a numbered note under the table says on what, such as a camera, a multi-material unit, LAN-only mode or a firmware version

✗

Not supported

-

Not offered by the printer: the printer doesn't let other software do it

A feature that needs a paid plan shows the plan's name next to it. The table is built from the same rules the SimplyPrint panel uses, so the page and the panel agree. The setup guide's page for each connection method has a table like it.

Suggest a correction

You don't need an account. If you're not signed in, you give your email (only used if we have a question) and pass a quick verification.

  1. On the printer's page, click Did we make a mistake? Is any of this data wrong? Let us know! You'll find it under the compatibility cards and under the specifications table.
  2. The Suggest a correction form shows the current specifications: name, brand, bed type, bed size, max print height, heated bed, max extruder and bed temperature, filament width, probing tool and direct drive. Change whatever is wrong.
  3. To report how it works, choose a connection method under Does it work with SimplyPrint? and pick It works or It doesn't work under How did it go?.
  4. Add proof: up to 5 links, one per line, such as the manufacturer's spec page, the manual or a forum post, and a note. Signed in, you can also add a photo or screenshot (PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 4 MB).
  5. Click Send suggestion.

Your suggestion goes to the SimplyPrint team's review queue. It is checked automatically against other sources, such as the printer's official slicer profiles, and the page only changes once the team accepts it. "It works" proposes Compatible. One "It doesn't work" report proposes Not expected to work, never Not compatible.
