Shift-click to skip confirmations: pause, cancel, clear the bed and more without a dialog
Pausing a print, clearing a bed or resolving a maintenance problem normally opens a confirmation dialog first. When you do these things all day, Shift-click skips that dialog: hold Shift while you click, and the action happens straight away. This guide explains which actions support it, how to turn it on or off for your whole account or just for yourself, and the few cases where the dialog still opens.

How Shift-click works
- Hold Shift and click an action that supports it, for example Pause on a printer.
- The first time you do this for an action, SimplyPrint asks whether you want to skip that confirmation with Shift from now on. Choose Skip with Shift to turn it on, or No, keep the dialog to leave it as it was.
- From then on, a Shift-click on that action does it immediately, with no dialog, and a short message confirms it.
You are asked once for each action, so agreeing to skip the dialog for pausing doesn't skip it for cancelling. If your answer can't be saved because you can't choose your own confirmations, the button reads Not now and you're asked again next time. A normal click without Shift always shows the dialog as before.
When a dialog opens and Shift-click could have skipped it, you'll see a small "Psst!" line at the bottom of the dialog saying so. It disappears once you've started using Shift-click for that action.
Which actions you can skip
When you skip the dialog, SimplyPrint does what the dialog would have done with its default choices:
Action | What happens without the dialog |
|---|---|
Clear bed | The bed is marked as cleared. A finished print counts as a success; a failed or cancelled print stays as it was. |
Pause print | The print pauses straight away. |
Resume print | The print resumes straight away. |
Cancel print | The print is cancelled and recorded as failed. A print from the queue is returned to the queue or not according to your account's default. |
Unassign spool | The spool goes back to the location it was in before. |
Delete spool | The spool is moved to the filament trash. |
Resolve problem | The maintenance problem is marked as resolved. |
Start maintenance | The job starts, and the printer goes into maintenance mode. |
Complete maintenance | The job is completed with its summary as it is, and its linked problems are resolved. |
Archive print job | The job leaves the print history's default view and stops counting towards statistics. It can be unarchived at any time. |
Deleting files is deliberately not on this list. A deleted file can't be brought back, so that dialog always opens.
You only see the actions your user group lets you take. If you can't cancel prints, for example, cancelling isn't listed in your settings either.
Seeing what Shift-click will do
Hold Shift anywhere in the panel to see which buttons and menu items skip their confirmation. After a moment, a small label appears under each one, including in right-click menus such as the one on a filament spool.
While you hold Shift, hovering a button also shows a tooltip that says exactly what a click will do, such as "Click to instantly pause" or "Click to instantly cancel and mark as failed". It appears immediately, so you can hold Shift, point and click in one quick motion.
The three modes
Every action has one of three modes. Always show the dialog turns Shift-click off for that action; the first-time question above is only part of the default mode, and is asked once.
Mode | Normal click | Shift-click |
|---|---|---|
Always show the dialog | Shows the dialog | Shows the dialog |
Shift-click skips the dialog (the default) | Shows the dialog | Skips the dialog |
Skip the dialog, Shift-click shows it | Skips the dialog | Shows the dialog |
Skip the dialog, Shift-click shows it is for actions you never want to confirm. A normal click acts immediately, and Shift-click becomes the way to open the dialog when you want to choose something different, such as a cancel reason.
Changing it for the whole account
The account's settings decide what everyone in the account gets, unless a member has chosen their own.
- Open Settings → General and find the Confirmations section.
- Pick a mode for each action.
- Every member who hasn't chosen their own confirmations gets the new mode.
Changing the account's settings needs the Edit organisation settings permission. If you're the only member of your account, these are simply your settings, and choosing No, keep the dialog in the first-time prompt sets that action to Always show the dialog here.
Choosing your own confirmations
In accounts with more than one member, each member can override the account's settings for themselves.
- Click your name in the top-right corner and open your user settings.
- Under Your information, find the Confirmations section.
- Pick a mode for each action, or Account default to follow the account's setting again.
Choosing No, keep the dialog in the first-time prompt also saves Always show the dialog here, for you only.
So if an administrator sets an action to Always show the dialog for the account and a member's group doesn't have the permission, that member can't skip the dialog, and the "Psst!" line isn't shown to them either.
When the dialog opens anyway
Some dialogs ask a question that SimplyPrint can't answer for you, so nothing is decided without you.
Cancel print always shows its dialog while your account requires a cancel reason or a cancel comment (in your printer settings). Shift-click isn't offered for it then, and the Confirmations settings show that action locked with the reason. Turn the requirement off and Shift-click works for cancelling again.
In these cases a Shift-click opens the dialog after all:
- Cancel print: when the print was started by someone else, or when the print came from the queue and Return cancelled or failed prints to the queue is set to Ask each time in your queue settings.
- Clear bed: when AutoPrint would start the next print as soon as the bed is cleared, or when the print never finished.
- Unassign spool: when the spool has no location to go back to and your account uses filament locations.
- Complete maintenance: while a required task in the job isn't done.
A dialog that opens on its own, such as the Complete maintenance job dialog that appears once you tick a job's last task, always shows as usual. Only a click you made with Shift held skips it.
