Getting started with SimplyPrint and common use cases
SimplyPrint does a lot - manage printers, run a queue, slice in the browser, track filament, teach a class. The fastest way to get going is to find the use case that matches you and follow that path. This guide gives you the short version of getting started, then points you at the right area for what you actually want to do.
The two things everyone does first
No matter your use case, the first two steps are the same.
- Create your account at simplyprint.io and sign in. You land in the panel.
- Connect a printer (unless you only want the slicer or filament tracking). The setup guide at simplyprint.io/setup-guide shows the exact method for your printer. For many modern printers, including Bambu Lab, that is the SimplyPrint Client - a small app you run on a computer on the same network as your printers; others (for example some Klipper or OctoPrint setups) connect a different way.
Once a printer is connected it shows up under Printers with its live status and camera. From there, pick the use case below that fits you.
Common use cases
- I have one or a few printers
- I run a print farm
- I run a classroom or makerspace
- I just want to slice
- I want to track my filament
I have one or a few printers
You want to print remotely, watch the camera and keep your prints organised.
- Connect each printer with the SimplyPrint Client (or the on-printer method for Klipper/OctoPrint setups).
- Upload your files under Your files, or slice them in the Slicer.
- Start prints from the printer's page, watch the camera, and check Print history to see how each one went.
- Turn on notifications so you hear about finished or failed prints, and put SimplyPrint on your phone with the mobile app and push notifications.
If a print comes out badly, the print troubleshooting wizard walks you through fixing it.
I run a print farm
You want many printers busy with as little manual work as possible.
- Connect all your printers. One SimplyPrint Client can bridge many printers across brands on the same network.
- Use the print queue to line up jobs - SimplyPrint matches each one to a free printer by material, nozzle and tags, then starts it automatically.
- Set up AutoPrint so finished prints get cleared and the next job starts without you - fully hands-off printing for supported hardware.
- Track upkeep with maintenance so a worn nozzle or a due belt-tension never surprises you mid-run.
- Watch the whole farm at a glance on a Hub wall screen, and report on it with statistics.
I run a classroom or makerspace
You want students to print safely, within limits, and with you in control.
- Get your students and teachers in - invite them, import a list, or use single sign-on. See Managing your users.
- Organise students into classes and set quotas and limits so nobody burns through all your filament.
- Turn on queue approval so prints wait for a teacher's OK before they run.
- Use Academy to run courses, assignments and attendance.
- Put a shared Hub screen in the room so students can see the queue and printer status.
I just want to slice
You do not need to connect a printer to use the Cloud Slicer.
- Open the Slicer in the sidebar.
- Import a model, pick a printer and filament profile, and slice. See the Cloud Slicer guide.
- Download the sliced file, or send it straight to a printer or the queue if you connect one later.
I want to track my filament
You want to know what filament you have and how much is left.
- Open Filament in the sidebar and add your spools. See the filament manager.
- As you print, SimplyPrint can deduct filament automatically so your remaining weights stay accurate.
- Generate filament labels and use NFC tags to make swapping spools quick.
A note on plans
The basics - connecting printers, printing, the slicer and filament tracking - work on every plan, including Free. Some of the farm and classroom features above (parts of the print queue, AutoPrint clearing, quotas, Academy, single sign-on) are part of higher plans. Each linked guide tells you exactly what its feature needs, and the pricing page has the full comparison.
