How to apply for the student discount

This guide walks you through applying for the SimplyPrint student discount, from finding the eligibility card in your account to clicking the confirmation link in your school email. The whole process takes a couple of minutes if your school is on our recognised list.

You must have a SimplyPrint account before you can apply. The free plan is enough to start verification — you only need to pick Basic or Pro when the discount is ready to apply.

Table of contents

  • Before you start
  • Step 1: open the eligibility card
  • Step 2: enter your school email
  • Step 3: confirm your academic info
  • Step 4: click the link in your verification email
  • After verification
  • If verification fails

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A SimplyPrint account (any plan, including the free tier).
  • Your school-issued email address (the one ending in your school's domain, like yourname@university.edu).
  • Access to that email account, because the final step is clicking a confirmation link we send to it.

If your school's email is not yet recognised by our verification system, the email check will fail at step 2. See the bottom of this article for what to do, or jump straight to how to add your school to the student-discount verification list.

Step 1: open the eligibility card

Sign in to SimplyPrint at simplyprint.io/panel and go to Settings in the left menu, then Subscription. Scroll to the bottom of the page. You'll see a Student discount card with a "Verify your student status" button.

Click Verify your student status. A modal opens that walks you through the rest of the process.

The card only appears if your account is eligible. If you are on a Print Farm, School, Enterprise or sponsored plan, the card will not show. Drop to Basic or Pro first if needed.

Step 2: enter your school email

The first screen of the modal asks for your school-issued email address.

Tick I am a student at an accredited institution, then click Start Verification. On the next screen, type your school email and click Validate academic email.

If your school is on our recognised list, you'll see a "School domain verified" confirmation and move on to step 3. If it isn't, you'll get an "Email domain couldn't be verified" warning — see the section at the bottom of this article.

Use your real school-issued email. A personal Gmail or Outlook address won't work, even if it's the one you log into SimplyPrint with.

Step 3: confirm your academic info

The form pre-fills your school name and country from our database. Confirm or correct them, then pick your role and academic level:

  • Academic Role: Student. (Teachers and staff are not eligible for this discount — the form will block submission if you pick Teacher.)
  • Academic Level: Secondary School, Vocational School, Undergraduate, or Graduate / Postgraduate.

You'll also see two optional school-survey questions:

  • Does your school have 3D printers? Yes / No / Unsure.
  • About how many? (Only if you said Yes.) Pick a range — 1-5, 6-20, 21-50, or 51+.
  • Share with your teacher. A tick box that includes a link you can pass to your teacher about the SimplyPrint School plan. Totally optional.

The survey is anonymous and only used to help us understand the maker labs out there. Skipping it does not affect your discount.

Click Submit Academic Information to send the verification email.

You'll see a "Verification email sent" confirmation in the modal.

Verification submitted, waiting for email confirmation

Now go to your school email inbox. You should see a SimplyPrint email titled something like "Confirm your academic status". Open it and click the Confirm link inside. The link opens a SimplyPrint page that confirms the verification and applies the discount to your account.

If the modal is still open when you click the link, you can hit Check for confirmation to refresh — otherwise the discount is live the next time you reload the panel.

The verification link expires after a while. If it does, just go back to the eligibility card and run the flow again — there's no penalty for retries.

After verification

  • The eligibility card flips to a verified state showing your expiry date (12 months from now).
  • If you are already on a paid Basic or Pro subscription, the 40% (or 60%) discount applies to your next invoice automatically.
  • If you are on the free plan, the discount is locked in for when you upgrade. The Basic and Pro plan picker shows the discounted price.
  • If your school happens to already use SimplyPrint as a paying customer, you get 60% instead of 40% — no extra steps needed.

If verification fails

A few things can go wrong, in roughly this order of likelihood:

  • Your school's email domain is not recognised. This is the most common case. We rely on a community-maintained list of academic email domains, and not every school is on it yet. See how to add your school to the student-discount verification list for the fix.
  • The verification email did not arrive. Check spam first. If it is genuinely missing, request a new one by running the flow again. School email servers sometimes hold mail for a few minutes.
  • You are on a plan that does not support the discount. Print Farm, School, Enterprise and sponsored accounts cannot use the student discount. Drop to Basic or Pro first.
  • The link in the email has expired or was already clicked. Run the flow again from the eligibility card to send a fresh email.
